A concert celebrating devotional music from Houston’s diverse faith communities

Voices of the Spirit is a celebration of the city’s diverse devotional music traditions. This year’s concert features alabanzas performed by Mariachi Estrellas de Mexico in adoration of the Virgin of Guadalupe; the Islamic call to prayer by Mu’ezzin Ameer Abuhalimeh from the Islamic Da’Wah Center; the Neak Porn Ensemble performing music traditionally heard only in Cambodian Buddhist temple settings; and the Garifuna group Walagante conducting a traditional spiritual invocation with percussion, chorus and dance.
